#TheTapeDeck Meets Sez Batters

yoh31 February 27, 2012 Artist Spotlight, Features, Hip Hop, Misc. No Comments

The rise of the mid-west in hip-hop is impossible to ignore. More so Kansas has been proving they can breed some big voices from small towns. One of the most promising artist coming from the Sunflower State is X.V. As he continues to excel allows more talented prospects to be heard. One i’d consider to be Sez Batters. Also coming from Wichita, Kansas a member of the #Squarians, he’s slowly been getting attention from the blogs for his lyrical adeptness. After the jump you can read my interview with this up an coming artist on the subjects of Midwest State Of Mind Tour, success, the legendary batman chain, Wichita, upcoming projects, and more. Enjoy.

Yoh: First and foremost i want to welcome you to TheTapeDeck. For our readers unfamiliar mind giving us an introduction on who Sez Batter is?

Sez Batters: I’m just a boy from Kansas…lol Naw I’m just an artist out of Wichita, KS trying to show the world my passion for my craft and lyricism.

Yoh: Haha word. Wichita stand up. I think my first recollection of you goes way back to last year. A freestyle video of you and X.V. in NYC. I think that was the first time i saw you on all the major blogs. Going from that too now how has it been pursing a career as an hip-hop artist?

Sez Batters: Like any career it has its ups and downs but its been an amazing journey so far and I just look forward to getting more people like you that’ll take out the time to listen to something new.

Yoh: I hear that. If i’m correct you’re currently on the Midwest State Of Mind Tour. Is this your first time on tour? How has the experience been and any unorthodox stories? We do accept NSFW tales haha.

Sez Batters: Yeah I’m playin a part of The Midwest State of Mind Tour…I say play a part becuz XV actually designed the set in reference to a play…in theater like fashion. *some behind the scene facts* lol but this isn’t my first tour…I’ve also done tours with X with my homeboys Chiddy Bang…also The Clipse, Travie McCoy and Casey Veggies LOTS of #Squarian stories but none to share…Hagar maybe next interview…lol

Yoh: hahaha well since you can’t give away any of the stories maybe some insight on your favorite place you’ve visit while touring?

Sez Batters: Man it soooo difficult to single out one city cuz I’ve been to a TON of places and some more than 3 times and most of them all rock but my favorite city to go to is Chicago…the shows are ALWAYS live and as a Bulls fan I just love the city.

Yoh: D.Rose for MVP haha. To get back into the music what can we expect from Sez Batters in 2012. A follow up to Sweet 16?

Sez Batters: Haha Derrick Rose is a monster and the name of a future track I’m releasing called Derrick Rose/Perfect Game on my up coming mixtape The BARbarian Chronicles…so look forward to that but my big project in 2012 is my mixtape/album Talking To Mannequins

Yoh: Looking forward to both. Since you’re a raising artist in a clutter industry i have to ask did you ever figure you wouldn’t make it? If so what would your back-up plan be?

Sez Batters: I mean I still have a ways to go til I get to the top but that’s my drive…I’ve always been a competitive person and doing what I do is competitive cuz everyone wants to be number one. I haven’t always had my heart set on music but I feel like that’s what I’m the absolute best at within my many talents…lol and I never really had a back up plan…when you have nothing to lose you fight harder…

Yoh: Very true. Alright I got a few more questions and it’s a wrap

1. Being there and watching the rise of X.V what would you consider the most valuable lesson you’ve learn?
2. If you had to pick one of your songs that best describe Sez Batters Which would I be?
3. Coming from a not so known town of Wichita,Kansas. What’s something that you feel the town has that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in the world?
4. What does it mean too be a Squarian?
5. What is the background story on the legendary batman chain?
6. Finally what does success mean to you?

Sez Batters: Watching X grow to the artist he is now as been a great learning experience and just like me I feel like he has a ways to go but the world needs to see what he can do cuz he’s an incredible artist. But the I guess I would say the most important lesson I’ve learned is be yourself thru the music…take what makes you YOU as an artist and magnify it. That’s where the BARS and BARbarian concepts came from.

2. I actually have a FEW songs that describe me in different ways but the best one I would say is on Talking To Mannequins and its called Go!

3. Taco Shop!! Lmao…I eat there everytime I go back home…their enchiladas are AWESOME…lol

4. To be a Squarian is to not conform…its about not fitting in the circle by thinking outside the box…its being different…Fuqq yo Circle

5. Hahahaha actually the way it happened was pretty funny…it was actually a joke between me and X…when I came up with the idea of the mask being a chain it was around the time Yung Berg and other rappers were getting their chains snatched and me and X were joking about the Batman piece and making it into a chain until one day I just made it on some #SquarianShit lol

6. Success means finally making that dream a reality…taking all that drive and hardwork and dedication and talent and mixing it up to come out where you wanna be.

Yoh: All I need now is your social network information for the people to reach you, and any shout outs you may have. Looking forward to all the music that’s too come and you have our support here @ TheTapeDeck.
